Undergraduate Summer Internships

Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund for TREE has now come to an end and we would like to thank the Wellcome Trust for their support over the last 10 years. All of TREEs funding has come to an end and will not be renewed.

 

These awards provide promising undergraduates with hands-on experience of research during the summer holidays, with the aim of encouraging them to consider a career in research.

Career stage: Undergraduate students who are not in their first year can apply

Hosted: University of Exeter

Level of funding:Salary (paid via eclaims) up to a maximum of £3700 to support an undergraduate student to carry out a summer placement + travel if required. Max total £4450. If consumables are required for the placement please include these costs in the application. These will be confirmed on a case by case basis up to maximum of £1000.

Duration of funding: 6 to 8 weeks

Summer Internships

The Translational Research Exchange (TREE) summer internship offers undergraduate students who are not in their first year of study the opportunity to take part in a 6 to 8 weeks research project with an academic supervisor (to be organised with student/supervisor before submission). This programme with take part between July and September 2022 and has been developed to support undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience.

At the end of the internship, the TREE directors would like to receive a 1000 word report of the outcomes of the project and the students will be asked to present their findings at a TREE ISSF event at the end of the project period in September.

Eligibility:

You can apply for a Translational Research Exchange (TREE) summer internship if you are studying for an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject and you are interested in gaining research experience.

Examples of relevant subjects include:

-        science (including biomedical, natural, computing or physical sciences)

-        medicine

-        engineering

-        mathematics

You must be an undergraduate student and must not be in your first year of your degree and have not yet undertaken a substantial period of research. We are happy to consider students from other institutions that are not Exeter.

We particularly encourage students from groups that are currently underrepresented in postgraduate science research, including black and minority ethnic (BME) students and those from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, as well as those with caring responsibilities.

Funding available:

The Translational Research Exchange (TREE) Summer Internships is for 6 to 8 weeks. You will be paid a rate above Real Living Wage to a maximum of £3700, 36.5 hours per week + travel if required up to a maximum of £750 – total maximum £4450.
