**Bookings for autumn 2024 are now closed. Bookings for spring 2025 are open.**
Please contact employer-events@exeter.ac.uk if you are interested in discussing potential dates.
About Recruitment Presentations
Presentations provide the ideal opportunity to meet students who are particularly interested in your company. You can provide information about your company, sector and the opportunities you offer. They can be delivered virtually or in-person, both on and off-campus.
If you wish to deliver an in-person presentation on campus, please contact employer-events@exeter.ac.uk to discuss availability, venues and book in a date.
If you are hoping to deliver an in-person event off-campus but in a nearby venue, or a virtual event that is exclusively for University of Exeter students, we advise that you contact employer-events@exeter.ac.uk in advance to ensure we can work with you to confirm suitable dates and avoid clashes with any similar activity we have scheduled.
If you are delivering virtual events which are open to students from multiple universities, then you can upload these for promotion, via our careers platform, Handshake. You can read more about this free service, here and also by viewing the 'External Events' section on this page.
Please bear in mind that all physical bookings require robust risk assessments and protocols to be followed in order for them to go ahead.
Please click on the headings below for more detailed information, including charges.
If you are a current student visiting this page, please visit Handshake for a list of all upcoming recruitment presentations.
Recruitment presentations take place throughout the academic year. October and November are peak times, followed by late January and into February. They do not tend to run in the summer due to examinations and no events run the first or last week of term.
Presentations run Monday-Thursday inclusive. We hold them in the daytime or early evening. For daytime presentations, we recommend scheduling over the lunch period or afternoon to ensure maximum attendance and commencing the event on the half hour, in line with lecture schedules. For evening presentations, we recommend starting your event at 18:30 as student classes are finished by this time allowing for greater room availability.
Virtual Presentations
We advise that virtual recruitment presentations should last between 45 minutes and 1 hour.
For virtual events which are exclusive to University of Exeter students, you can deliver this via your preferred platform and simply provide us with all the necessary details to market the event. We recommend you liaise with us in advance to determine the most suitable date.
Virtual presentations are accessible to students across all our campuses, including those based in Cornwall, but can also be targeted towards specific degrees or Faculties.
Alternatively, if you are delivering virtual events which are open to students from multiple universities, then you can upload these for promotion via Handshake. You can read more about this free service, here.
In-person Presentations
In-person presentations usually run between 1 - 2 hours, and are often followed by a Q&A session and/or networking.
Whilst most take place early evening, either on campus or at one of the local hotels in Exeter city centre, daytime events can be arranged. Local organisations may wish to consider holding such an event on their premises if practical.
For presentations on campus, we book the venue for you, as well as any equipment and catering requirements you have. On-campus daytime events usually run for 1 hour due to limited room availability. Due to the length of the event being capped, it's not possible to offer networking or catering at a daytime session. On campus evening events can be booked to commence at 18:30 onwards. If you are considering holding the event off campus, you will need to make the necessary bookings with the venue directly.
These events are accessible to all students at our Exeter campuses but can also be targeted towards specific degrees or Faculties. If you are interested in delivering a presentation at our Penryn, Cornwall campus, you can read more about this, here.
Virtual presentations
Virtual recruitment presentations booked with the Employer Events Team and exclusively for University of Exeter students are advertised via:
- The Career Zone website
- Our internal online events site ‘Handshake’
- Email circular
- Via our social media channels
Where appropriate, the events will also be included in Faculty-based marketing material.
Event sign up is dependant on the platform of delivery; if a presentation is being run by us through our platform of choice then we are unable to share student data with you due to GDPR. We will update you with registration numbers from approximately one week before your event.
If managing the presentation through your choice of platform, then you are responsible for keeping us up to date on registration numbers so we can tailor marketing accordingly.
Please note that events booked through the Employer Events team should only be attended by University of Exeter students and graduates.
In-person, on campus presentations
In person, on-campus recruitment presentations booked with the Employer Events Team and exclusively for University of Exeter students are advertised via:
- The Career Zone website
- Our internal online events site ‘Handshake’
- Email circular, sent to all Streatham and St Luke’s campus based students (approximately 20,000)
- Via our social media channels
Where appropriate, the events will also be included in Faculty-based marketing material.
We operate an electronic sign-up system within Handshake, which will provide a good indication of the number of students likely to attend your presentation. You will automatically be provided with this information approximately one week ahead of your event.
Please note that events booked through the Employer Events team can only be attended by University of Exeter students and graduates.
Events exclusively listed on Handshake
If you do not book your event with our team and opt to only list on Handshake then regardless of whether it is virtual or in-person, we are unable to guarantee providing any additional marketing, other than your Handshake entry.
Attendance
Please note that we are unable to guarantee attendance numbers at any events advertised to our students.
Whilst we endeavour to schedule your event to avoid clashes with any other that have booked with us from the same sector, student societies and other groups run employer events independently of our team which we will not necessarily have any prior knowledge of.
To secure your preferred date, benefit from all the publicity opportunities and get the best attendance, as well as to avoid clashes with other employers, we urge you to book a date with us as early as possible. Many employers secure their preferred dates when we first open for bookings (spring, for the upcoming autumn term).
We advise at least 4 weeks notice minimum between booking and the live event. For events in October, November and February however, please contact us no later than 8 weeks before the start of the term.
Please note: Bookings for autumn 2024 are now closed. Bookings for spring 2025 are open.
In-Person Presentation Charges
Our on-campus evening presentation fee is £150+VAT. This allows for a 2 hour event, which can include a catered networking portion. Events team staff will be available to support on the night.
Evening charges apply from 17:30 when on campus, including bookings which start before and crossover the 17:30 threshold. Additional charges will be levied for catering, porters, cleaners, equipment hire and AV support. This list is not exhaustive and will be confirmed once your event has been booked.
Daytime on-campus presentations are £100+VAT and allow for a maximum 1 hour slot. To allow for the smooth transition both before and after your event, we advise your talk runs for no longer than 45 minutes. Events team staff will be available to support on the day. Please note we are unable to provide catering for daytime events.
If you plan to book an off-campus event in the city centre, then please do contact us to confirm a suitable date to avoid clashing with existing activity. We charge £100+VAT for marketing and staffing off-campus events.
Events open to multiple universities (virtual and in-person)
These events can be uploaded directly to Handshake, free of charge. Please visit the 'External Events' section on this webpage below for details.
We can advertise externally organised employability-related events on our careers portal Handshake. Where appropriate and subject to space, we may be able to include the details in our weekly student employer event newsletter.
We require at minimum a two week lead time before the event or registration deadline for advertising. This is to allow time for us to check and process the request before setting it live and to provide a reasonable advertising period for students to learn of the event.
We reserve the right to decline events if they:
- are not relevant to our students (i.e. not aimed at current students/graduates or targeting disciplines we do not offer)
- are not careers, employability or recruitment focused
- clash or compete with similar activity we are delivering
- require payment or a deposit to attend, or are promoting chargeable activity
- have little/no detail in the event description and fails to provide a sufficient description of what the event will entail
- are competitions (please visit our social media page to promote competitions)
- contain errors or inconsistencies
- fail to meet our advertising guidelines, including seeking to restrict attendance on the basis of protected characteristics (see 'Guidelines for Positive Action').
You can connect to the University of Exeter on Handshake here and upload your external events to the platform.
You can find out more on joining Handshake here, and how to upload your events to the system quickly by following the steps shown in this guide.
If your company has active job postings and the requested event is less than 60 days away, it will be promoted on the job postings once we have approved the event listing.
Please ensure that you have configured your user settings in Handshake to receive emails and notification alerts. This is important so you are alerted to any questions you may receive from us about your listing.
To do this, log in to Handshake, click on your name and select 'User notifications'. Under 'notification preferences' ensure that there are green ticks in the 'events' section under the emails and notification column, and specifically 'Someone comments on an event that I organise'.
This service is free of charge.
