Scholarship Recipients 2020
Exeter Scholars is supported by a number of generous individuals who have made donations and scholarships available to programme participants who succeed in becoming Exeter Senior Scholars and choose to study at the University of Exeter.
Below you can find information about the recipients of our scholarships for 2020 entry.

The Edward Cakebread Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Stuart Cakebread (BA Theology 1976)
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar of BAME origin who has come to the University of Exeter via Exeter Scholars, Pathways to Law, or Realising Opportunities
Recipient: Winston
Winston completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying MPhys Physics.
"I will be the first in my family to complete a degree, and will be able to accomplish my goals through the generous support of my donor."

The Tony Allen Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tony Allen (BSc Physics 1965)
Amount: Three awards of £1500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The three highest achieving Senior Scholars who are living in either the South Hams, Teignbridge, or Torbay areas of Devon
Recipient One: Millie
Millie completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Marketing and Manageament.
"One of my favourite parts of Exeter Scholars was meeting other prospective students who were just as excited to begin their pathway to university as I was!"

The Tony Allen Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tony Allen (BSc Physics 1965)
Amount: Three awards of £1500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The three highest achieving Senior Scholars who are living in either the South Hams, Teignbridge, or Torbay areas of Devon
Recipient Two: Amber
Amber completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Medical Sciences.
"Taking part in Exeter Scholars really helped my transition to university, as I had already experienced lab sessions, lectures, and seminars."

The Tony Allen Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Tony Allen (BSc Physics 1965)
Amount: Three awards of £1500 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The three highest achieving Senior Scholars who are living in either the South Hams, Teignbridge, or Torbay areas of Devon
Recipient Three: Betty
Betty completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Sport and Exercise Medical Sciences.
"This award motivated me to work hard for my A Levels – even though I didn't sit the actual exams, I pushed myself to work hard throughout sixth form."

The Ailsa King Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumna Ailsa King (BA History 1986)
Amount: £3750 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar of BAME origin who has come to the University of Exeter via Exeter Scholars, Pathways to Law, or Realising Opportunities
Recipient: Taylor
Taylor completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Biological and Medicinal Chemistry with Industrial Placement.
"This award is amazing to receive and will make my time at university so much easier."

The Simon Dunkley 1992 Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Simon Dunkley (BA Education and Mathematics 1992)
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who has accepted an offer to study with the University of Exeter Business School
Recipient: Bethan
Bethan completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Economics and Politics with Year Abroad.
"Exeter Scholars gave me a genuine feeling of belonging to a community and allowed me to meet Exeter students and staff before I even started uni."

The Laura Piper Award
Donors: Mrs Dianne & Mr Ric Piper
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The highest achieving Senior Scholar who has completed the Pathways to Law subject activity strand, hosted by the University of Exeter, and has accepted an offer to study with the Law School
Recipient: Josh
Josh completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying LLB Law.
"This award is of great benefit to me and will enable me to study with less pressure to find part-time work to be able to support myself in my studies."

The 220 Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus William Graydon (BSc Biological Sciences 2011)
Amount: £9250 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar who is Black or Black British African, Black or Black British Caribbean, other Black background, or an individual who identifies as mixed white and Black Caribbean or mixed white and Black African
Recipient: Kaiesha
Kaiesha completed the Exeter Scholars National pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BA History.
"The residential was the most enjoyable part of the programme; I loved getting to visit Exeter!"

The Philip Norman Bursary
Donor: The Norman Family Charitable Trust
Amount: £5000 per year for five years
Awarding Criteria: The Senior Scholar who meets the highest number of programme eligibility criteria at the point of enrolling on Exeter Scholars, who has accepted an offer to study BMBS Medicine and is resident in either Devon or Cornwall
Recipient: Alan
Alan completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BMBS Medicine.
"I'm particularly interested in the impact medicine has on the general public, and the relationship between doctors and patients."

Exeter Scholars Alumni Award 2020
Donor: Anonymous
Amount: £3750 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar of BAME origin who has come to the University of Exeter via Exeter Scholars, Pathways to Law, or Realising Opportunities
Recipient: Blessy
Blessy completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BMBS Medicine.
"I am most looking forward to the clinical skills and placements that are available from first year; these are a very rare aspect that this particular university offers that I am grateful for."

Exeter Scholars Alumni Award 2020
Donor: Anonymous
Amount: £3750 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: The highest achieving Senior Scholar who has declared a disability
Recipient: Matthew
Matthew completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying BSc Physics with Professional Placement.
"This award would enable me to apply for opportunities to broaden my experience and knowledge. I would like to thank the prize donors for giving students opportunities for equal achievement with everyone and to reach their full potential."

The Peter Baldwin Scholarship
Donor: University of Exeter alumnus Peter Baldwin (BA History 1991)
Amount: £3000 per year for three years
Awarding Criteria: A high-achieving Senior Scholar of BAME origin who has come to the University of Exeter via Exeter Scholars, Pathways to Law, or Realising Opportunities
Recipient: Isabel
Isabel completed the Exeter Scholars South West pathway, and is now a first-year undergraduate studying LLB Law.
