Grand Challenges 2019

Closing the Treatment Gap for Armed Forces Veterans

This group identified that ex-service personal are particularly vulnerable to sufferring from mental illness, and that this particularly population are be less likely to seek mental health support, potentially caused by a military culture preventing sufferers from being willing to accept help. This group decided that creating a series of podcasts would be a novel intervention for solving the treatment gap, as it would involve minimal commitment, be wide-reaching and anonymous.

This group aimed to address sources of stigma within ex-service personel, both within the wider society as well as in the military culture, as well as provide experiences of transitioning back to civilian life after being discharged, overall encouraging veterans to seek support from the various mental health services available. They created this poster to be presented at the Showcase.

Here is the group presentation which they presented on the Friday of Grand Challenges week.
