Grand Challenges 2017

Kidz-Kind

This group identified that child mental health is an increasingly hot topic, with research suggesting that 50% of people with mental health issues saying they developed their issues before the age of 14, but during these years, around half of these do not choose to seek help as they do not wish others to know they are struggling. Therefore, this group aimed to raise awareness of mental health within the classroom, reducing the stigma surrounding it. Additionally, they wanted to produce sessions which helps children understand their emotions and teaches coping strategies, which would also improve the likelyhood of support-seeking behaviour later in life.

During Grand Challenges week, they designed this board game to be played by the children in the sessions, which introduces concepts around emotional awareness of themselves and their peers. They also produced this poster to be shown in the Showcase.

This is the group presentation which they presented on the Friday of Grand Challenges week.
