Grand Challenges 2018

Support for LGBT+

This group identified that mental health within the LGBT+ community was at a dire situation, with almost a quarter of all LGBT+ people attempting suicide, and half of all having harmed themselves, at some point. Crucially, they identified that two thirds of people were unaware there were health services specifically for LGBT+ people.

This group therefore aimed to raise awareness around mental health issues, such as highlighting barriers to reaching out to support, and to create a resource to signpost people to the corresponding support services. They created this leaflet that includes real-life descriptions and experiences of LGBT+ people with mental health difficulties, as well as contact details of support services. They also made this poster‌ which includes a flow-diagram to signpost people to the correct support services which are tailored to their specific difficulties.
