Travel Information
Living in University or private accommodation in Exeter means you’ll need to travel between your residence and key locations such as study centres, the city centre, health services, and other support facilities. Below you’ll find essential travel information for different modes of transport, including walking, wheelchair access, cycling, public transport, and car use.
Walking
The historic city of Exeter is hilly in places, particularly on the Streatham Campus, but the campus is a compact area which is easy to navigate.
- To Streatham Campus: Most University-managed residences are within a 10–25-minute walk of Streatham Campus. See the Streatham Campus map.
- To St Luke’s Campus: Residences closer to the city centre are generally 15–20 minutes on foot to St Luke’s Campus. See the St Luke’s Campus map.
- To the City Centre: The city centre is easily reached on foot from most University accommodation (10–20 minutes). A detailed Exeter city centre walking map is available.

Cycling
Exeter is a cycle-friendly city with designated lanes and cycle paths. Secure bike storage is available at most University residences. At both campuses there are designated areas to park and lock up bikes. The University provides free bike maintenance sessions and discounted locks.
Travel times by bike:
- Streatham Campus: 5–10 minutes from most University accommodation.
- St Luke’s Campus: 10–15 minutes from most University accommodation.
- City centre: 5–10 minutes.
Public Transport
Line 4 Bus: This bus service connects the University of Exeter campuses and key areas across the city, running every 12 minutes during peak hours. It is particularly popular among students and offers a range of benefits, including a reduced service on Sundays and public holidays. Discounted student tickets are available from Stagecoach. Private Vehicles
Parking at residences: University-managed accommodation generally does not offer parking permits except for students with disabilities or exceptional circumstances.
- Campus parking: Limited spaces are available by permit only.
- City parking: Long- and short-stay car parks are located around the city centre.
