Module description
This block taught module is focused on understanding the important role of human capital and talent management to organisational success. Through a process of exploration and discussion, we seek to identify the exact nature of talent and what managerial skills are needed to make the most of the diverse talent pool underpinning entrepreneurial success. Like any asset, human capital will only deliver its full value if it is properly understood, measured and managed well.
This module will prepare you to deal with the challenges of successfully scaling an organisation, as well as how to identify the right systems and structures that are appropriate to your organisation type. It will encourage a developmental mind-set; equipping you with the enquiry skills to unlock new possibilities, the leadership behaviours necessary to manage Self and others, and the knowledge needed to design inclusive, fair and equitable talent strategies.
This module can only be taken by students on the MSc Entrepreneurship Innovation Management degree.
Module aims - intentions of the module
By the end of this teaching block, students will have a practical and critical understanding of the nature of talent and its role in organisational success. The exercises, discussions and assigned readings will equip you with a fundamental grasp of how to construct organisations and lead people well. Recognising that managing others is a vital part of the entrepreneurial venture we will explore the knowledge, skills and behaviours necessary in creating diverse teams and building organisations that ensure all talent is recognised and can flourish.
Our ambitions within this module are to create entrepreneurs who are sensitive to the organisational and people challenges tied to venture creation/growth. On completion of this module students will be able to analyse and evaluate the role of the entrepreneur in creating viable organisations.
