Module description
Cornish Intermediate 1 is intended for those who have successfully completed PLC1130 Beginners or who have a level broadly equivalent. The module provides a systematic approach to building on essential grammar structures in a communicative context.

Module aims - intentions of the module
The module is appropriate for those who either already have or may quickly regain a level of proficiency in Cornish broadly equivalent to A1. You will become a solid A2 user of the Common European Framework and aims to:
- Consolidate the essential structures of the target language, developing both vocabulary and range of language structures thus equipping you with the linguistic tools to enable you to communicate effectively in everyday situations
- Further develop active and passive language skills, including comprehension skills in listening, reading and productive skills in speaking, writing
- Deepen your understanding and appreciation of the Cornish customs, culture and society and develop your awareness of the general social and cultural background of the language.

- 2. Read and comprehend straightforward written and aural texts on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, study, leisure etc. in Cornish
- 3. Communicate effectively on a broad range of general topics which are familiar or of personal interest, both orally and in writing, and produce short descriptive and narrative texts, formal and informal letters.

Syllabus plan
The module provides a systematic approach to acquiring essential grammar structures in a communicative context and developing the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Whilst the content may vary from year to year, it is envisioned that it will cover some or all of the following topics:
Grammar (non-exhaustive):
- Tenses: present, past (perfect, preterite & imperfect) tenses.
- Moods: Imperative, Present participle.
- Prepositions.
- Interrogatives.
- Idioms including ass/ nans/ gwell yw dhe…
- Comparisons (mar… avel), comparative & superlative.
- Expressions of time.
- Negative forms including questions.
- Possessive adjectives.
- 3rd and 4th mutations.
- Reflexive verbs.
- Conjunctions (co-ordinating & subordinating).
Main Topics (non-exhaustive):
- Origins and background, Express likes/dislikes. Say where you come from and put the question to others
- Describe key events in your life (past, present and future)
- Talk about leisure events and activities
- Personal relations. Meeting people. Telephone conversations. Relationships
- Holidays, travelling and tourism
- Describe houses, rooms. Talk about where you live
- Work and training, working conditions, looking for a job, CV. Fix meetings and appointments
- Health and well-being, medicine. Problems, accidents, mishaps.
- Shopping.
- Arts and culture. Ask and react to opinions
- News and topical events. Environment.

Re-assessment notes
Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be either deferred in the assessment or an extension may be granted. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.
Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 40%) you will be required to submit a further assessment as necessary. If you are successful on referral, your overall module mark will be capped at 40%.
