This module introduces you to the history, the terminology and basic concepts of toxicology. You will study the principles of drug absorption, distribution and metabolism and excretion. This will explore factors affecting metabolism and the principal biochemical transformations. You will learn about exposure conditions and pathological consequences of that exposure from a cellular to an organism level. Data and interpretation from in vitro and in vivo toxicity tests will also be investigated. Specific examples in genotoxicity, mutagenicity, carcinogenicity, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity and neurotoxicity will be covered.
