4. Programme Structure
Your MRes Management programme is a 1-year programme of study at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 7 (as confirmed against the FHEQ). The programme is divided into units of study called ‘modules’ which are assigned a number of ‘credits’. The credit rating of a module is proportional to the total workload, with 1 credit being nominally equivalent to 10 hours of work.
Interim Awards
Postgraduate Diploma:
(a) A Postgraduate Diploma is awarded when a student gains at least 120 credits including at least 90 at Level M on a designated programme.
Postgraduate Certificate:
(a) A Postgraduate Certificate is awarded when a student gains at least 60 credits including at least 45 at Level M on a designated programme.
5. Programme Modules
The following tables describe the programme and constituent modules. Constituent modules may be updated, deleted or replaced as a consequence of the annual programme review of this programme.

1. to understand and critically evaluate fundamental theories and practices in business and management as a research arena. | Outcome A1 A2, A3, A4 and A 5 are developed in the core subject modules BEMM067 and BEMM158, which ensures that students have a core understanding of management and management research; in required modules BEMM217 and BEMM219 which provide a survey of foundational theories in business and management. Outcomes A4 A5 and A6 are developed BEMM792 Research Workshops, which exposes them to cutting-edge research and methodologies and involves them in the development process of journal articles, and optional modules, which develop more specialised knowledge and expertise. Outcomes A2, A3, A4 and A5 are developed within the core subject modules and the optional modules. Outcomes A6 and A7 are dealt with in the compulsory subject modules, research training modules (BEMM158, BEMM067, BEMM066 and BEMM065) and the dissertation (BEMM355). Written work and oral presentations attract written and verbal feedback from tutors, intended to foster continuous improvement in student progress. Assessment criteria are publicised for all major assessment components. | ILOs A1-7 to be addressed by a combination of individual written coursework, group presentations, peer assessment of group work and written examinations. |

Outcomes B2, B3, B4 and B5 are also developed throughout the core subject modules. B1-4 Critical inquiry and conceptual application will be evaluated in BEMM158 Business and Management Research skills and BEMM792 Research Workshops, in addition to other core modules and dissertation. B1-5 The dissertation will give students an opportunity to have their core academic skills evaluated in a specific subject area of their choice. | ...accommodated and facilitated by the following learning and teaching activities (in/out of class): | ...and evidenced by the following assessment methods:
1. to develop presentation and debating skills. | Outcome D1 is developed in the paper development workshops within BEMM809 Research Workshops as well as throughout the core subject modules. All modules include a presentation aspect, and BEMM158 Business and Management Research Skills holds specific sessions dedicated to communication and presentation skills.
Outcome D2 is dealt with extensively in the required methodology training modules and theory modules. The BEMM355 Dissertation Module focuses heavily on having students problematize their topic and develop a research agenda to solve those problems.
Outcome D3 is developed throughout the programme, but especially in the BEMM355 Dissertation Module which develops core library and citation management skills and digital tools to analyse data and in BEMM158 Business and Management Research Skills. Also, BEMM809 Research Workshops provides students an extensive opportunity to collaboratively work to critically analyse challenges researchers have and develop their own and colleagues’ works.
Outcome D4 Tech & Digital Literacy: The required methods courses (BEMM067 + BEMM066 + POLM063 + BEMM065) requires students to apply industry standard data analysis software (e.g. SPSS, R, and NVivo). BEMM792 Research Workshops offers many workshops for additional tech and digital tools specific to individual topics and research methodologies (e.g. Python, SNA). The literature review emphasis in the dissertation requires students to use industry standard citation management software and develop deep skills drawing information from academic databases).
Outcome D5 Resilience and Self-advocacy skills are developed throughout the programme via a series of assignments where students must defend their work and perspective to each other. In addition, students become self-advocates in BEMM809 Research Workshops as they design their own plans for workshops to attend as well as by giving and receiving criticism on their work as well as others during Paper development workshops. The BEMM355 Dissertation Module also develops these skills via their development of a systematic literature review where they must develop and advocate for a chosen research agenda and approach. The dissertation, several subject modules require independent work.
Outcomes D6 and D7 are fostered in group assignments in several core subject modules and via a series of assignments where students must defend their work and perspective to each other. The BEMM355 Dissertation Module also develops these skills via their development of a systematic literature review where they must develop and advocate for a chosen research agenda and approach. Students are exposed to a wide range of ideas and academics from across the globe in many courses. Outcome D6 is primarily developed in the dissertation, but the research modules and several subject modules require independent work.
