2. Description of the Programme

The MSc in International Business prepares you to discover your career in international business. The programme is designed for those students looking to accelerate their career advancement in areas relevant to international business. As part of your training you will develop a better understanding business and management practice through real-world business examples. You will become more familiar with terminology and understanding of the theoretical aspects relevant to the field of international business. If you have never studied international business before, this course will help you transition into an international business career. For those who have a background in international business, this course will equip you with the knowledge necessary to advance your career and undertake new business challenges in a global context.

 

The aim of the programme is to equip you with the key skill sets required to solve and implement international business strategy.  As part of the learning journey you will benefit from the flexible schedule that an online degree offers. You will have access to specialist workshops taught by leading international academics on issues pertinent to international business, globalisation and sustainability. They will draw from cross-disciplinary scholars in the fields of Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Management, and Strategic Planning, where they will explore International Business Issues from a variety of stakeholder perspectives.

3. Educational Aims of the Programme

  • Train students as evidence-based problem solvers that analyse relevant data, opinions and market context, when making strategic decisions in international contexts.
  • Provide insights into the inter-relationship that exists between political, legal, technological, socio-cultural, and economic factors with businesses competing in international environments.
  • Stimulate and encourage in students to question strategic trade-offs in relation to developing a successful global business portfolio.
  • Act as inclusive learners that can work effectively in cross-cultural environments.
  • Develop leadership skills and a student’s awareness of their own inner strengths and values through a process of self-reflection.

4. Programme Structure

Your MSc International Business programme is a 2 year part-time programme at National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 7 (as confirmed against the FHEQ). The programme is divided into units of study called ‘modules’ which are assigned a number of ‘credits’. The credit rating of a module is proportional to the total workload, with 1 credit being nominally equivalent to 10 hours of work.

 

You will study one 30 credit module per term. You will take 180 credits of compulsory modules in total. Modules are offered on a carousel model but BEMM492Z International Business Project must be taken last.

 

Students may enter the programme during three fixed starting dates during the academic calendar, which is January, May and September. The module running order will be dictated by your entry point and the corresponding module available on the carousel model at that entry date.

BEMM080Z Finance for International Managers: The module focuses on decision making in an international context, building on, and extending, the valuation framework provided by domestic corporate finance to account for dimensions that are unique to international finance (ILO’s 1-3)

 

BEMM493Z Global Markets: This module is designed to help students to understand the marketing process of international businesses in cross-cultural contexts. Students will draw from multi-disciplinary perspectives in order to understand how successful organizations conduct marketing strategy to build sustainable competitive advantage over their competitors (ILO’s 1-3).

BEMM492Z International Business Project- Planning and Practice: The Business Plan draws from practical case study data and requires environmental scanning and situational analysis in cross-cultural contexts with an aim to develop sustainable business practice (ILOs 4-7).

 

BEMM491Z Cross Cultural Management: The approach of this module is a practice-based approach to understanding the relationship between organisational behaviour and international business. This course highlights multi-stakeholder perspectives and sustainable organisational practice in organisations competing in cross-cultural contexts. (ILOs 4-7).

 

BEMM490Z International Business and Globalisation: This module focuses on how companies conduct business across borders and explores various economic systems, cultural differences in different economies, and discusses issues from around the world to give students a global awareness and an understanding of sustainability (ILOs 4-7).

 

BEMM0817 Accounting for Managerial Decision-Making: Concepts and techniques are taught to reflect that it is the responsibility of all organisations to make ethical financial decisions and actions and to provide financial information so that stakeholders can make their own informed decisions (ILOs 4-7).

 

BEMM493Z Global Markets: Highlights topics relevant to marketing in international business from cross disciplinary areas of research and business practice. A core objective of the model is a heightened sensitivity to ethical business practice (ILOs 4-7).

 

BEMM081Z Finance for International Managers: Explores issues on how firms fund themselves ethically. This course highlights how firms choose between different types of international financial instruments and how those financing decisions vary in international contexts (ILOs 4-7).

BEMM492Z International Business Project- Planning and Practice Students write about business practice and prepare critiques of those practices using approaches in a manner that is consistent with ethical business practice and environmental sustainability.

Digital literacies will be developed as you progress through this online programme. You will complete guided independent study engaging and interacting with the variety of online content, using relevant case studies and recent academic research, presented through a variety of online resources and media. You will develop a familiarity with essential digital tools throughout your studies and also through the variety of assessments you will be submitting.

Core content for the programme will be made available online and asynchronously via our dedicated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to allow maximum flexibility in when you study to fit around your other commitments. We will provide a range of rich online materials, a variety of learning activities and encourage you to participate in learning communities. Each module will set out the key expectations and requirements at the start of teaching and you will receive timely feedback on your progress throughout the duration.

 

You will be allocated a personal tutor who will be able to provide guidance and feedback on assessment performance, guidance on generic academic skills, and pastoral support. Personal tutors are also able to refer you to more specialist support services as required, both within the College, and across the extensive network of support the University has to offer.

11. Regulation of Assessment and Academic Standards

Each academic programme in the University is subject to an agreed College assessment and marking strategy, underpinned by institution-wide assessment procedures.

The security of assessment and academic standards is further supported through the appointment of External Examiners for each programme. External Examiners have access to draft papers, course work and examination scripts. They are required to attend the Board of Examiners and to provide an annual report.
