SOCIAL-ECOLOGICAL INTERACTIONS by Dr Lucie Baudoin
The Biophysical Context as a Determinant of Actors’ Behaviour in Collaborative Water Governance
Past research has repeatedly stated that water issues are part of Social-Ecological Systems (SESs), and that collaborative or participatory approaches are necessary to govern such issues. Yet research on Collaborative Water Governance has been historically extremely focused on studying "social-to-social" phenomena, meaning interactions among social components of SESs. In my research projects, I endeavour to studying "social-to-ecological" (or "ecological-to-social") interactions around these collaborative governance processes, making bridges with natural sciences as I do so. In this seminar, I offer to give an overview of these attempts to build bridges, presenting to two papers (one published, one under development) where I explore the biophysical determinants of actors' behaviour in Collaborative Water Governance.

Event details
Lucie Baudoin is an Assistant Professor in the Strategy Department of Excelia Business School, France, since September 2021. Before that she completed her PhD in Management Sciences at ESADE and was then a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Montpellier Business School.
All of her research engages with the following puzzle: "What makes us collectively manage our ecosystems the way we do, and how can we get better at it?". She studies that puzzle in relation to water governance and adaptation to climate change. She pursues interdisciplinary projects and has published in Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Management Studies, Organization & Environment, the Journal of Environmental Management and Water Alternatives.
Dr Lucie Baudoin is being hosted by Dr Onna Malou van den Broek (ESI affiliate and Lecturer in Sustainable Business and Politics at the University of Exeter Business School).
