Big Butterfly Count 2025

Join us on 30 July for the Big Butterfly Count 2025. We'll be counting butterflies at two locations, one in Lower Hoopern Valley and the other on Streatham Campus from 11am - midday. Meet 15 minutes earlier at 10.45 am outside of Camper Coffee on The Queen's Drive. We will have experts from the Sustainability and Grounds Teams on hand to help you identify butterflies and we will provide a printout of the most popular ones.

The Streatham campus location will be nearby and fully accessible. The Lower Hoopern Valley location will involve a short walk. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring something to drink.

This is all part of the Big Butterfly Count 2025 which runs from 18 July to 10 August. Last summer just over 935 000 butterflies and day-flying moths were recorded across the UK.

The data from this and other counts helps the Butterfly Conservation Trust to identify important trends in species that will assist us in planning how to protect butterflies from extinction, as well as understanding the effect of climate change on wildlife.
