Global Leaders Experience- Gamifying Local Heritage

Local heritage for global students

About the Programme

11.4 of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals aims to strengthen efforts to safeguard and protect the world’s cultural and natural heritage. To achieve this, it is important to sensitize and involve the local communities. One way of doing this is through gamification.

In this Global Leaders Experience, Immersive Trails offers students the opportunity to not only study local heritage, but also create real-world, long-term outreach initiatives in the form of heritage scavenger hunts.

Open to Widening Participation and International students, this is a perfect opportunity to learn about local heritage andget involved in your community. You will get the chance to work with a global cohort online over a period of four working weeks. The cohort will be broken up into groups containing students from Exeter University’s Exeter and Cornwall campuses and from Kolkata, India, to explore themes that demonstrate the interconnectedness of global history.

Example schedule

Week one will consist of masterclasses on themes such as public history in the UK and India and the gamification of history for outreach. You will also have the opportunity to attend specialist lectures fromlocal historians and heritage businesses. Talks and sessions will take place online in the morning and early afternoon, to accommodate both time zones.

You will work collaboratively across global and interdisciplinary teams to produce research on one of the following themes: Colonialism, Women, World Wars, Diversity, Literature, or Religion. The programme will conclude with presentations and discussions on your projects.
