2. Description of the Programme

The BA (Hons) International Business and Global Cultural Studies with Year Abroad programme is not available for direct application. It is available as an exit route from the BA (Hons) International Business and Modern Languages with Year Abroad following failure of one of the non-condonable Study or Work Abroad modules, BUS3000D, E or F at stage 3, or if you no longer want to study a language after completing a year abroad.

The difference between the programmes is that on BA (Hons) International Business and Modern Languages, stage 3 (the Year Abroad) is condonable, and the stage 4 core language module is optional and condonable.

3. Educational Aims of the Programme

As final year language is optional and condonable, you may not reach the same level of proficiency in your language as on BA (Hons) International Business and Modern Languages with Year Abroad.

4. Programme Structure

The BA (Hons) International Business and Global Cultural Studies with Year Abroad is a four-year full-time programme of study at Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) level 6 (as confirmed against the FHEQ). The programme may also be taken part-time in up to seven years. This programme is divided into four stages. Each stage is normally equivalent to an academic year.

You follow the first three stages of BA (Hons) International Business and Modern Languages with Year Abroad and then transfer to this programme for stage four as a consequence of failing stage three, or if you no longer want to study a language after completing a year abroad.

7. Programme Regulations

Your degree classification will be calculated from the credit-weighted average marks for stages 2, 3 and 4 combined in the ratio 2:1:4 respectively.

Your degree title will be ‘BA International Business and Global Cultural Studies with Year Abroad’. If you have passed at least 60 credits of a language, you will get ‘with proficiency in [language]’ added to your degree title. If you have passed at least 60 credits of a language at advanced level (e.g. MLx1001, MLx2001) you will get ‘with proficiency in advanced [language]’.

11. Regulation of Assessment and Academic Standards

Each academic programme in the University is subject to an agreed College assessment and marking strategy, underpinned by institution-wide assessment procedures.

The security of assessment and academic standards is further supported through the appointment of External Examiners for each programme.
