Overview

Dr. Hasan Baig (HB) has been working as a Research Fellow at the Environment & Sustainability
Institute since June 2015. Currently he is working on a UKRI funded project entitled Embedded systems for Integrated Photovoltaics in Rural Buildings

He is the founder of the university spin-out BUILD SOLAR which aims at developing construction materials with integrated PV technology.  Previously he worked as a Research fellow on an EPSRC project (SUNTRAP- EP/K022156/1) at the University of Exeter in collaboration with several other universities and industrial partners.  During this project he has designed and manufacture of a hybrid Low Concentrating Photovoltaic Thermal system (LCPV/T) capable of generating both electricity and hot water simultaneously.

Before joining this project he worked on another EPSRC project for a duration of three months (RESCUES- EP/K03619X/1) where the main tasks included development of a finite element model for Concentrating Photovoltaic (CPV) systems coupled with phase change materials. HB worked as an Associate Research Fellow on an EPSRC project (BIOCPV EP/ J000345/2) project during which he conceived the concept of Conjugate refractive-reflective optics and explored its advantages within a HCPV system. Further, HB has also developed and installed a remote data logging system to monitor the performance of a hybrid grid-connected PV/Biomass energy harvesting system. The system can record and make this data accessible online from any part of the world.

During his PhD research  HB explored the importance of non-uniform illumination in Concentrating Photovoltaic systems. He has designed and analysed different types of Building Integrated Concentrating Photovoltaic systems and have introduced novel solutions of improving their efficiencies.

In December 2013, he won the Impact award under the Sustainable futures category for his PhD research.

HB is also a member of the Renewable Energy department in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences and support their teaching program.
