About the software
Stata is a general-purpose statistical software package. Most of its users work in research, especially in the fields of economics, sociology, political science, biomedicine and epidemiology. Stata's capabilities include data management, statistical analysis, graphics, simulations and custom programming. Full details are available on the Stata website [external website].
There are three major builds of Stata:
Stata/MP – for multiprocessor computers (including dual-core and multi-core processors)
Stata/SE – the Standard Edition
Stata/IC – for smaller databases
These three builds are available as GradPlan purchases for students only. GradPlan licences may be perpetual, annual or for six months. GradPlan licences may not be upgraded or converted to a new flavour.
The University has purchased an annual unlimited-user licence for Stata/SE statistical analysis software. The licence is funded by three colleges (Medical School, Business School and SSIS). Of course, we welcome other college staff to make use of the discounted unlimited-user licence.
