Exploration of the Social Participation of Primary Aged School Children Identified as having ASD in China

This case study research explores the social participation of primary aged mainstream school children identified as having ASD or considered by their teachers as having ASD characteristics through an ICF-CY-type assessment. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for Children and Youth (ICF-CY), a framework that developed by WHO, is used to describe the characteristics of children and young people from body functioning and structure, activity and participation perspectives, taking into consideration the influence of both environmental and personal factors. The study was conducted in 2019 in 4 mainstream primary schools in Beijing, China, and I invited 6 children identified as having ASD as well as their peers and teachers as participants. In this presentation, I will present my research questions; details about participant recruitment, and how this process led to changes in the research design, and why;  the research methods I used; and some issues I am currently facing with the data analysis.
