Screen Talks - Savants and Stereotypes: Barry Levinson's Rain Man (1988) introduced by Dr Ginny Russell

From the 'Sickness on the Screen' theme of the Screen Talks: 'Great Films, Great Debate' series

In partnership with Picturehouse Cinemas, the University of Exeter's Screen Talks brings you a fantastic programme of films selected by experts in Film, Literature, History and Culture.

Event details

Each screening includes a brief introduction to the film and time for an informal discussion afterwards in the Picturehouse bar.

Screen Talks are currently organised under three themes: 'Beyond the Page' offers both classic and new films drawn from the vibrant and fertile category of adaptations, 'European Cinemas Hidden Classics' brings key films and filmmakers from Europe into the light, and 'Sickness on the Screen' highlights the treatment of health and medicine in film.

Dr Ginny Russell (Research Fellow at Egenis at the University of Exeter) will introduce Rain Man (Barry Levinson, 1988). Dr Ginny Russell has written a guest blog post for Screen Talks, outlining the film’s influence on the ways that autism is understood.
