Event details
Overview
This event is part of the Exeter Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme and is focussed on Planetary Health. While this is in some ways a new field – it was launched with a report in 2015 – “Safeguarding Human Health in the Anthropocene Epoch” the idea of humans living in balance with, and caring for, the natural environment on which they depend is really very much ancient wisdom that we have chosen to ignore over the last few centuries. It is very much human ‘civilisation’ that is the aggressor, not some recently discovered academic theory. The report set out the rationale for bringing together a broad range of disciplines to address the urgent issue of how human beings relate to the natural world and how our relationship is currently causing such catastrophic damage to the health of both the natural environment and to human health. Exeter has been at the forefront of developing this approach, and this event continues that work. The day draws on the experience of medicine, psychology and social work and the event is wide ranging with aspects that will, we hope, interest many different professional groups. The aim is to provide a forum for hearing different perspectives and sharing our ideas for further learning and practice. The day will coincide with day 2 in China of the second part of the UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP15), updating the global “Convention on Biological Diversity (2000): Sustaining Life on Earth”.
Who is this day for?
This day is part of the curriculum for clinical psychology trainees, who will be joining us from all 3 years of the Exeter training programme in clinical psychology (DClinPsy). In addition, we hope it will be of interest to other health and social care professionals and would very much welcome their attendance.
