Abstract
Prof Jeremy Munday: What do we mean by “translation”?
This talk will discuss the phenomenal growth of Translation Studies over recent decades and the expansion of the term “translation”. This will be illustrated by analysing shifts in translation theory and practice during that time, drawing on my experience in writing and revising Introducing Translation Studies (Routledge 2001, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022). I will highlight what I consider to be crucial questions for the future. I would like the talk to be interactive, so please prepare a brief definition of “translation” from your own experience of teaching, studying or researching in this field.
