How to make English schools more inclusive for children and young people with SEND?
Professor Brahm Norwich
This presentation will explain the background and rationale for this one year UKRI-RSA funded project. The aim of the project was to trial a deliberative public dialogue approach to answering the above question. The specific form of dialogue tried was what is called a Citizen Jury/Panel approach. The Citizens’ Panel involved young people (aged 12-16) with and without special educational needs/ disabilities (SEND), parents/carers and teachers. Participants heard evidence from experts, discussed and decided what needs to happen to ensure students with SEND feel welcome in school and succeed. The design involved a 2 phase public dialogue of people in the Portsmouth area. The 4 sessions have been completed and the process and outcomes are now being evaluated. An overview of the outputs from the panel will be reported and discussed.
All welcome, in person attendance and MS Teams.
