War in other Words: fair and showcase

Unearthing, translating, and revoicing World War I stories from around the world

Event details

Who should attend?

Anyone is welcome to attend this open event which forms part of the Arts and Humanities Research Council's Being Human festival.

What is the event about?

Members of the public are invited to find out about the World War One stories collected so far by the War in Other Words project. Visitors will be able to engage with stories in their original languages and their English translations.

We will be introducing our website, which acts as a repository for all these materials, and a platform for collaboration with participants across the world. During the presentation of the stories there will be opportunities for hands-on activities for the audience, involving translations and recordings.

We would also like to establish further collaborations, and encourage the public to share any WWI stories they might be aware of. The showcase will be an opportunity to discuss the idea of an audio-visual installation (using the materials collected) and the best ways for engaging the public with it.

This project showcase aims to be flexible and informal, bringing together members of the public with University staff and students.

Registration

Participants are welcome to join at any point between 16.00 - 19.00 for as long as they wish. No registration is required.
