LME Scholarship
About the award
Up to two scholarships worth £26,500 each are available to students who have had an application accepted to one of the Camborne School of Mines MSc programmes for September 2026 entry. This scholarship is only open to offer-holders who have been confirmed as eligible for home fees. Please note this scholarship is not available for MRes, PGDip or online programmes of study.
Funded by a generous donation from London Metal Exchange (LME), successful candidates will also be offered:
- Mentoring with LME staff
- The chance to collaborate with LME on their dissertation project
The scholarship will be paid as a tuition fee discount with the remainder of the £26,500, where applicable, paid as a cash stipend.
Entry requirements
- Candidates must hold an offer for an eligible programme
- Candidates with a first or 2:1 (or equivalent) will be prioritised

As part of the application you will be asked to respond to the following questions:
- Our university community thrives on collaboration and diverse perspectives. In 250 words or less, how do you see yourself contributing to the academic and social life of the university, and how do you believe your work could impact the UK's mining or geology sector? (max 300 words)
- Looking five to ten years into the future, how do you envision yourself applying your knowledge and skills to address a key challenge facing the UK's mining, geology, or raw materials sector? (max 300 words)
- Please describe an experience, a fieldwork trip, a discovery, or an influential person, that ignited your interest in your specific area of mining or geology. What about this experience makes you passionate about your work (max 300 words)
You will need your Exeter student number to submit your scholarship application.
This scholarship is for programmes of study beginning in September 2026.
The closing date for this award is 16th June 2026. Applicants will be notified of the outcome no later than the 31st July 2026.
Terms & Conditions:
By applying for this scholarship, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
- By submitting an application, you consent to the University of Exeter sharing relevant personal information (such as your name, programme of study, and contact details) with the donor (London Metal Exchange) and members of the scholarship selection panel for the purposes of assessment, administration, and post-award engagement.
- Scholarship awards are conditional upon successful registration at the University of Exeter for one of the eligible Camborne School of Mines MSc programmes starting in September 2026.
- Scholarships are only available to applicants confirmed as eligible for home fee status.
- The scholarship is not available for MRes, PGDip, or online programmes.
- If you defer your offer, the scholarship will be withdrawn and cannot be carried forward to future years.
- You may not receive more than one scholarship from the University of Exeter. If you are eligible for multiple awards, you will be granted the scholarship with the highest value.
- It is your responsibility to inform the University if you are in receipt of any external funding prior to enrolment. Please email a copy of your award letter to Admissions at pg-ad@exeter.ac.uk.
- The University reserves the right not to award all scholarships if suitable candidates are not identified.
- The scholarship will be paid as a tuition fee discount, with any remaining balance of the £26,500 provided as a cash stipend, where applicable.
- If you withdraw or interrupt your studies after enrolment, the University’s Student Finance Regulations will apply regarding any repayment or other financial requirements. See: University of Exeter Student Finance Regulations
- You may be invited to provide a photograph and a written or video profile for use in promotional materials related to the scholarship and/or study at the University of Exeter.
- You may also be asked to attend events or participate in internal and external communications activities related to your award.
- Participation in publicity activities is encouraged but not compulsory
- By accepting the scholarship, you agree that the University may contact you after graduation to seek updates on how the scholarship has influenced your career or academic journey.
- The University reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Any changes will be communicated to applicants promptly.
