Cristian

What have you been doing since leaving Exeter, and what are you doing now?

I have been involved in consulting activities in the mining industry, particularly for Wood plc and consulting and audits in geometallurgical topics, mainly located in South America.

Why did you choose this career?

I choose this career because it is an excellent opportunity for applying my expertise in critical aspects of mining projects and operations. A scientific background is key for addressing these activities in a way that can add value to the mining business and supporting to the development of projects that help communities and countries.

What did you enjoy most about your programme at Exeter and what was the biggest highlight?

It was a wonderful opportunity for a global outlook about the mining industry and sharing the experience with very nice, responsible and well-prepared colleagues. I enjoyed living in a stunning, peaceful and safe location, but most of all I enjoyed sharing with students from many different countries and backgrounds.

Why did you choose Exeter?

I chose Exeter because of the well known Camborne School of Mines programme and the excellent reputation of the English educational system.

What skills and experiences have been most useful for your career?

Critical thinking and a strong technical background. These can be acquired with a curious spirit. Consistency based upon values such as responsibility, honesty and perseverance.

What advice would you give to a current student who wishes to pursue your career?

Do not lose your focus! Make a simple and reachable plan and keep going on it.

What are your plans for the future?

Consolidate my technical skills and get some work in different locations of the world.
