Module description
Research methods training is essential for everyone who wants to use research in a pro-active way to contribute to reducing the impacts of the environmental crisis. This bespoke module teaches you how to design meaningful research with an external research partner. We will introduce you to a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies used across humanities and social sciences. You will learn how to conduct archival work and oral histories, as well as social science surveys and questionnaires, participant observation and ethnography. The module emphasises the importance of decolonial research methods that make it possible to amplify voices often not heard (or listened to) in environmental policymaking: e.g. indigenous peoples and others marginalised by race, class, gender, sexuality or other markers of difference. The module is assessed by an evaluation of different types of methods and a research proposal and partnership agreement for the practice-based dissertation.
