Module description
The practice-based dissertation is an independent learning project that is conducted in collaboration with a local, national, regional or global environmental NGO, policy-maker, MP or other socio-political organisation or actor. It allows you to bring together your knowledge and research skills learned on the course into a final project, which has the potential to make a real difference to any stage (or stages) of environmental policy-making. It might be shaping new but important environmental messages or discourses, gathering evidence to inform NGO campaigns, involving communities in environmental decision-making or helping to enact policy. The practical partnership-based element of the practice-based dissertation provides a useful grounding in the skills and experiences that post-graduate degree holders need in the real world to make a contribution to solving the environmental and climate crises, as well as important links with prospective employers. You will be supported to research and organise your own collaboration which may involve a placement if appropriate.
