Module description

Technology and automation are likely to change the way we move in society. Automated cars, for example, are likely to be common on roads across a number of jurisdictions in the coming decade, changing the driver into a passenger. Similarly, the current legal landscape in shipping is likely to be significantly altered by Autonomous Shipping.

In this module, you will learn about Automated and Autonomous Transport, identify the different areas of the law affected by this new technological development, and discuss the legal challenges that arise.

Module aims - intentions of the module

The aim of this module is to provide you with detailed knowledge and understanding of the legal challenges facing the introduction of Autonomous Vehicles and Ships with emphasis on both national and, where applicable, international, law. It will also aim to provide you with current knowledge as to reform proposals at both national and international levels.

This module will be of particular interest for students interested in the technology law fields. It will equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge that law firms specialising in this fast-growing area of the law look for.
