Module description
This module supports you to exit the MSci (Hons) Nursing programme at Level 6 with a BSc (Hons) in Health Studies (without nurse registration). The module is a Stage 3 / Level 6 module replacing 30 credits of 60 credit Clinical Immersion 3 (NUR3000 or NUR3050 depending on student pathway). The module provides a route to an academic award (without nurse registration) for students who do not wish to, or are unable to, continue to nurse registration.
This module enables you to conduct a literature review and to prepare a research proposal in relation to an area of interest in the context of health and social care.
Module aims - intentions of the module
The aim of the module is to consolidate your learning in relation to research in health and social care and to enable you to refine skills in literature reviewing and research proposal design.
The module consolidates previous learning, specifically in relation to the Evidence-based Practice and Ethics and Professional Pillars of Learning of the MSci (Hons) Nursing Programme.
Evidence for practice: as an Exeter nurse you will understand how to monitor and evaluate the quality of patients’ experience to inform and improve the quality of care and services in partnership with the patient and colleagues. Your advanced grasp of research methods and implementation science will enable you to produce, as well as locate and use, the evidence for practice. E
Ethics and Professionalism: this pillar will allow the Exeter Nurse to demonstrate commitment and professional values including social justice, compassion, dignity and integrity and the flourishing of individuals, families and communities. E&P

Whilst the module’s precise content may vary from year to year, an example of an overall structure is as follows:
The module comprises two key components: a teaching day to consolidate your learning; and on-going supervision sessions with a member of the Academy of Nursing team, as follows:
- Module Overview: a single day (5 hours) of classroom-based teaching will be delivered to set out the structure of the module and assessments; allow students to meet with their supervisor; and refresh key concepts of literature reviewing and research design, consolidating learning from earlier Stages of the MSci (Hons) Nursing Programme.
- Supervision: 1:1 supervision meetings (or in groups depending on student numbers, supervisor allocation, student’s chosen research topic) will take place for 1.5 hour each week to support development of the literature review and research proposal.
