About Innovation Exeter
Innovation Exeter is a programme being developed by a partnership of key players from across the Greater Exeter region committed to establishing the area as one of the UK’s leading knowledge economies foremost in the areas of high performance computing, data analytics and applied environmental science. The aim is to attract significant investment, create sustainable high quality employment and identify the challenges that need to be addressed to raise income levels including retaining and attracting ambitious young people. It builds on the area`s strengths including the knowledge economy in environment, data science and health and education/training creating a culture where skills development and their application is core. Innovation Exeter will also aim to improve the working and living environment to support transformational growth and raise productivity. With the support of business, investors and Government, the resulting benefits can be accelerated and have a wider impact.
About This Event
Innovation Exeter is involved in a number of NEW inter-related programmes. As well as the local authorities the partners include the University of Exeter, Exeter College, Met Office and Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation NHS Trust. Key initiatives include:
- The Exeter Centre for Data Science - to be a central hub for development and application of data analytics within the University.
- The Institute for Complex Analytics, Risk and Resilience (I-CARR) combining modelling and analysis for global environmental systems, tipping points, city and regional scale analytics, data science and modelling for environmental resilience, risk and insurance.
- Met Lab, facilitating access to environmental data, particularly via open source software/share tools; bringing experts together to better understand and exploit the commercial application of meteorological data.
- The development and implementation of a series of Skills Escalators to meet the current and future needs of business.
- Environmental Hub to promote collaboration and innovation based on the world class expertise, knowledge and data held by the University and Met Office.
- Institute of Technology serving the wider area but based in Exeter which would make a real difference to attainment and the supply of relevant key skills.
- Scaling up of business start-up, commercialisation and growth support for knowledge based businesses is also a priority including a new specialist investment fund.
- Science Park Grow-on Space to accommodate new and existing knowledge and research based businesses.
The total impact of these investments over the next 5 years is estimated at £300m, equivalent to an uplift of over 7% on Exeter’s 2014 GVA (a measure of productivity).
