In this exciting, practical, and interactive subject activity strand, you will gain first-hand experience of what it is like to study drama and the creative arts at university. Working in state-of-the-art facilities and studio spaces, you will have the opportunity to explore and develop your own creativity in addition to ensemble and collaborative work as you engage in taster sessions focused on a range of areas in drama, from Classical to Contemporary, from Shakespeare to Devising, from Theory to Practical. You will work with voice, text, time, and objects as the foundational tools for making performance and thinking critically through research. Alongside performance taster sessions, you will receive sessions focusing on the more technical and behind-the-scenes aspects of theatre, as well as examining the arts from a Creative Industries perspective. You will also engage in sessions in Film and Television Studies and Communications, including a tour of the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum, which is home to one of the largest collections of material relating to the moving image in Britain. 

The Drama degree at the University of Exeter is a 50/50 mix of practical and theoretical learning taught by a range of expert practitioner-academics who are passionate about their research. These specialists will work with you, in addition to current university students, so you can find out about their personal experiences through their degrees and society activities. You will be supported during the course by staff and Exeter Student Ambassadors (ESAs) who will offer guidance and be available to discuss any queries you may have. This subject activity strand will equip you with transferable skills that are not only beneficial for personal development but highly sought after by employers across a range of careers and industries, such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, analysis, research, self-motivation, adaptability, empathy, negotiation, and organisation.  

No experience in drama or the creative arts is required! This subject activity strand is suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced performers / creatives / crew, etc. We welcome introverts, extroverts, and anyone in the middle into the ensemble with opportunities to nurture and build your confidence over the year. Drama and the creative arts are a platform for self-expression and reflection, and they provide you with an open space for exploring emotions, thoughts, and ideas; discussing and raising awareness of social, political, historical, and cultural issues; and telling stories that need to be seen and heard. So whether you're interested in studying Drama as a single honours degree (BA Drama), a combined honours degree (e.g. English and Drama, Drama and Film and Television Studies), applying to Drama School, going into the field of creative arts as a career, or are unsure about future plans but want to give it a go, this is the subject activity strand for you!
