Mathematics and Computer Science

Mathematics and Statistics play a fundamental role in many aspects of modern life, providing the underpinning language and tools for a wide variety of disciplines and technologies. Similarly, Computer Science is an advancing, dynamic field, which is essential to many areas of science, technology, and industry.

With research areas ranging from artificial intelligence to healthcare and from evolutionary algorithms to the future internet, studying Mathematics or Computer Science at university opens up the possibility of careers in a wide and varied field of industries.

Taking part in this subject activity strand will give you an insight into the experience of studying one of these subjects as well as exposing you to some of the world-leading research currently being undertaken at the University of Exeter.

Activity Locations

All subject activity sessions will take place on the University of Exeter Streatham campus, with the exception of one field trip (details and location TBC). 

Subject Activity Strand Content

In this subject activity strand, you will have sessions delivered by experts from the fields of Mathematics and Computer Science. You will get to experience what it is like to study one of these subjects, as well as learning about the world-leading research in these areas currently being conducted at the University of Exeter 

Over the course of the programme you will take part in a variety of activities from sample lectures and problem-solving classes, to group tasks and a field trip to demonstrate the impact of these subjects outside of a university setting.  

Taking part in this subject activity strand will give you an understanding of the range of topics you will study and activities you would take part in as part of a degree programme. It will also present you with the chance to hear from current undergraduate students about what it is like to study one of these subjects at university.   

 

This subject activity strand has contributions from the following degree programmes:

  • BSc Mathematics
  • BSc Computer Science

Entry Requirements

In order to be considered for this subject activity strand, students must be studying Maths at A Level.

Pass Criteria

In order to pass the programme, you must attend a minimum of 5 out of 6 subject activity sessions, as well as the Exeter Scholars Student Conference.
