Module description

This 2nd year module forms part of the LLB with Professional Placement pathway. This non-credit bearing module aims to help students on this programme to prepare for the placement year that will take place in the third year of their degree. The module aims to assist students in their job/placement search and to provide a general preparation for successful participation in the workforce.

Delivery is through blended learning with a combination of recorded lectures, e-learning units and workshops. Completion of all sessions is mandatory unless specified as optional.

Module aims - intentions of the module

This 2nd year module forms part of the LLB with Professional Placement pathway. This non-credit bearing module aims to help students on this programme to prepare for the placement year that will take place in the third year of their degree. The module aims to assist students in their job/placement search and to provide a general preparation for successful participation in the workforce.

The combination of workshops, lectures and e-learning units focus on securing a placement, work-readiness and professionalism.

  • 4. locate information sources that will help them identify: a) The skills - discipline specific and transferable - that they should acquire by completing their degree b) Career options where a degree in their subject area is essential (where relevant), career options where a degree in their subject area is desirable, career options where a degree in their subject area would be useful.

On successfully completing the module you will be able to...

  • 5. locate information sources that will help them to identify, critically reflect on and provide examples from their own experiences to demonstrate the personal and key skills that they have developed and that graduate employers value most highly.

Syllabus plan

It is envisaged that the syllabus will include the following topics although precise content and order may vary.

  • Year 2 Securing your Placement – Review of expectations/responsibilities during the placement search and placement approval process (including how to seek approval for a placement, health and safety and risk assessment).
  • Health and Safety and what to do when you secure a placement.
  • Professionalism in the Workplace: Ethics and Culture.
  • Introduction to placement year academic assessments.
  • Pre-Placement Briefing Session – Student Responsibilities and Support.

  • OPTIONAL: skills sessions, mock interviews, etc.
  • OPTIONAL: Appointments with Employability and Placement Advisors to review student progress in securing a professional placement and advise on CV/LinkedIn and applications.

This module is not formally assessed, however it is possible to fail the module. Students are required to attend all compulsory sessions and complete the formative assignment

Re-assessment notes

Attending all compulsory sessions and completing the formative assignment are required to pass LAW2701, which is a pre-requisite for progression to LAW3701.

Those students who fail to meet the pre-requisites for LAW3701 will be transferred back to the three-year degree.
