Module description

This 2nd year module forms part of the ‘with Professional Placement’ pathway. This non-credit bearing module aims to help you to prepare for the placement year that will take place in the third year of your degree. The module aims to assist you in your job/placement search and to provide a general preparation for successful participation in the workplace.

 

Delivery is through blended learning with a combination of lectures, information sessions, support sessions, online information and 1-to-1’s available with dedicated support staff. It is recommended that you engage with as much as possible/necessary to provide you with the adequate level of support for applying for and securing your placement.

Module aims - intentions of the module

This 2nd year module forms part of the ‘with Professional Placement’ pathway. This non-credit bearing module aims to help students on this programme to prepare for the placement year that will take place in the third year of their degree. The module aims to assist students in their job/placement search and to provide a general preparation for successful participation in the workforce.

 

The combination of workshops, lectures and online information on securing a placement, work-readiness and professionalism.

  • 4. Understand the academic assessment requirements for the placement year
  • 5. Locate and interpret information sources to identify academic and employability skills development opportunities on your degree
  • 6. Locate and interpret information sources to identify career options where a degree in the subject area is essential/desirable/useful

  • 7. Recognise the impact behaviour, ethics and health & safety have in the workplace
  • 8. Identify personal skills needed to have impact and success in the recruitment process

Syllabus plan

It is envisaged that the syllabus is likely to have some or all of following topics, although precise content and order may vary:

Term 1 sessions may include:

  • Introduction sessions which will include: a short overview & introduction lecture, returning placement student presentations, Q&A and a chance for networking with returning placement students.

 

  • Support sessions: e.g. Searching for placements, CVs, cover letters, interviews.

 

Term 2 sessions may include:

 

  • Support session: Re-energising your placement search.

 

Term 3 sessions may include:

 

  • Pre-departure session for students going out on placement years.

 

1-to-1’s are available with dedicated support staff throughout all terms.
