Navratri and Diwali celebrations

Navratri celebrations Garba Night Sunday 13 October 2024

Join our Hindu Society as they celebrate Navratri with an evening of Garba. Get ready to twirl, spin and dance the night away to vibrant music, dazzling attire and non-stop Garba energy! They will begin the evening with a traditional Puja and after the Garba food will be available.

Diwali information: Sunday 27 October 2024

Students, families and local residents are invited to join us on Streatham campus to enjoy Diwali celebrations on Sunday 27 October. Please note these are provisional times for the event. 

2.30pm

Puja led by Hindu Chaplain in the Forum

3.00-5.00pm

Activity stalls open in the Forum. Come and see our beautiful rangoli, find out more about Diwali at our information board, try painting a diya, choose from one of our henna tattoo designs, make your own diwali card or badge, try on some traditional dress or listen to a traditional story incorporating performances.
There will be a small fee for diya painting, henna and food.  

3.00-5.00pm

Food served in the Terrace (please follow signs from Forum. The Terrace is level with the Great Hall). Come and enjoy traditional vegetarian food all served with green chutney, chilli sauce, mint yoghurt, tamarind chutney, pilau rice and naan unless otherwise stated

  • Vada Pav (Indian street food photo fritter served in a roll with green chutney, coconut chutney and tamarind chutney) £4.50
  • Butter paneer curry £6.50
  • Spinach, lentil and chickpea curry £6.50
  • Vegetable Samosas 2 for £3.00
  • Masala fries £4.00

5.30-6.30pm (doors open at 5pm)

Diwali Spectacular!
Traditional and contemporary performances in the Great Hall. Come and enjoy our students showcasing their talents. 
Doors open at 5pm. The performance is free and we invite you to come early (doors open at 5pm) and stay for the whole performance. Seats are available first come first served. 

At the end of the performance our Dohl Drummer will lead you to the fireworks

Activities
There will be a small charge for some activities. Please ensure you bring cash for activities or food. 
Large diya painting £3.50, Small diya painting £2.50, Adult henna £3, Children's henna £1.50
Card machines will be available for payment of activities and food. 

Car Parking
Car parking is free on the Streatham Campus on weekends. As activities are based around the centre of campus we would recommend using car parks C and D

*Fireworks are weather dependent but will only be cancelled in event of high winds and very heavy rain. Cancellation of fireworks will be posted here and on university social media if necessary.
