Subject Activity Strand Content

Each session will give you a sense of what it is like to be a Drama student at the University of Exeter. Our degree is a 50/50 mix of practical and theoretical learning taught by a range of practitioner-academics. We are theatre makers and historians, artists and teachers, researchers and community leaders. Each session will therefore be one of embodied exploration.

You will be introduced to different approaches to making theatre and thinking about performance critically. The sessions will provide participants with a sustained creative and critical experience through a series of devising games and collaborative tasks. Sessions will explore ensemble and collaborative work (key aspects of the Drama degree) as well as space, voice, time, and objects as the foundational tools for making performance and thinking critically through embodied research. You will devise in small groups and reflect on the work you created. The sessions will be rigorous but fun!

The course is designed to introduce you to the breadth of the subject and the latest practical and theoretical approaches to it, and to equip you with the kind of critical skills that are a central part of the first year experience at university. Additionally, the strand will provide participants with both a positive taster experience of a practical Drama module, and the skills and knowledge to embark on their own devised projects for the future.

No prior experience in Drama required!
