What is Environmental Humanities?
The climate crisis needs creative responses that challenge the way our cultures and societies think about the environment and our role in it. Science can help us to identify and understand the causes of the climate crisis, but in order to solve it we need to understand people, culture, and society.
Environmental Humanities as a subject foregrounds the key contributions that arts and humanities can make to evolving scientific and political understandings of current and future global crises and challenges. You will examine socio-cultural assumptions, normative values, and colonising practices which continue to shape human and non-human interactions, and explore different forms of response and intervention.
Environmental Humanities is a practical, placement-focused subject connected with industry, with a strong focus on employability and practical solutions. You’ll develop key transferable skills for environmental scholarship, creativity, communication, and activism.
